Marash Park Revitalization

Location: Prizren, Kosovo
Project Type: Landscape Architecture / Public Space
Program: Park Rehabilitation
Status: Completed
Client: Turkish Military Representation in Kosovo – KFOR Turkish Contingent
Collaborator: Arzu Keçeli
Year: 2024

Located along the Lumbardhi River, Marash Park reimagines an existing green space through a series of precise and minimal landscape interventions. Rather than introducing new elements, the project focuses on restoring, reorganizing, and enhancing what already exists, allowing the park to evolve while preserving its identity.

The initial condition of the site required a fundamental intervention. The existing soil was removed and replaced with a more fertile layer, creating the basis for a healthier and more sustainable landscape. Existing trees were carefully preserved, pruned, and selectively relocated, ensuring continuity while improving spatial clarity.

A central transformation occurs in the former green area opposite the amphitheater, which is redefined as a flexible open-air stage, expanding the park’s capacity for cultural and community events. The amphitheater itself is upgraded with Iroko wood seating, improving comfort while maintaining a natural and durable material expression.

Circulation and usability are enhanced through subtle interventions, including new seating elements aligned with the existing design language, waste bins, and a fully integrated irrigation system supporting year-round vegetation. The introduction of natural rolled grass reinforces the seasonal adaptability of the space.

Developed in collaboration with landscape designer Arzu Keçeli, the project reflects a shared approach focused on sensitivity to context, minimal intervention, and long-term sustainability.

Rather than redefining the park through radical change, the project operates through precision and care, demonstrating how landscape architecture can elevate public space through restoration, clarity, and strategic transformation.
